The Office of Pupil Personnel Services in the
Comsewogue School District provides special services to students in
the areas of Special Education, Section 504 Accomodations, Special
Instruction, Psychology, Social Work, Speech Therapy, Physical
Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Vision and Hearing Services,
Educational Evaluation and Home Tutoring, when needed.
When students have difficulty in school despite
attempts at remediation, school personnel or parents can submit a
request for an evaluation to the building principal or directly to
the Committee on Special Education (CSE). Parents and early
childhood educators who are concerned about a preschooler’s
development can submit a request for evaluation to the Committee on
Preschool Special Education (CPSE). The evaluation, under CSE or
CPSE, will include any procedures, tests, assessments, or
observations given to determine whether the student has an
educational disability and is eligible for special education and/or
related services. Recommendations from this evaluation may or may
not include classification of the child as a student with a
disability.
Home Tutoring (also known as Homebound Instruction)
is provided to students on a temporary basis when a student
is unable to attend school for a prolonged period (at least two
weeks) because of a short-term disability. Medical
documentation must be attached to the request form, which can be
obtained in the main office in each building.
Our SEPTA Presidents for 2006-2007 are Julia
Balzarano
and Donna Cimaglia.
