Community Support Needed to Seek Fair State Aid for Comsewogue

Write to Governor Spitzer Today and Send a Copy to Senator LaValle, Senator Flanagan and Assemblyman Englebright!

Dear Residents:

Once again we find ourselves in the position of fighting for adequate State Aid to support programs for Comsewogue students. We are appealing to you to help Comsewogue receive a fair share of funding.

Governor Spitzer’s proposed plan would dramatically under fund our schools, drive up taxes and could result in cutbacks in programs. This is unacceptable! It’s time to fight back.

A timely response is critical. Our State Senators LaValle and Flanagan and Assemblyman Englebright understand our plight and support us in seeking our fair share of state aid. We thank them for their efforts which made a huge difference last year. We must solicit their support once again in the following areas:

• Increase the minimum Foundation Aid to 5% with additional funds available for districts of below average wealth, such as Comsewogue.
• Continue to fund High Tax Aid.
• Retain Supplemental Excess Cost Aid.
• Fully fund mandates imposed upon school districts, including preschool expenses.

Our plan is to hand-deliver individually signed letters to our legislators from as many people as possible. Please print out the sample letter to the Governor and sign your name and address. You can bring your signed letter to your school PTA or NSA, or you can send it to Comsewogue High School c/o Mary Ann Steinmeyer, President, PTSA.
