National Recognition and Honors
For Three Comsewogue High School Seniors

Three seniors in the Class of 2007 have recently made the Comsewogue School District very proud. Honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Zachary Jackson, Jacqueline Okolie, and Daniel Thornhill have received special recognition for their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Named as a 2007 Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program as one of 16,000 top scoring students out of over 1.4 million nationwide, Zachary Jackson has taken the first steps toward being considered for a Merit Scholarship award by fulfilling several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition. According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, approximately 15,000 Semifinalists will advance to the Finalist level, from which all Merit Scholarship winners will be chosen; notification will take place beginning April 2007.

Designated as a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program, Daniel Thornhill earned a high selection index that placed him among the top 50,000 of over 1.4 million students who entered the 2007 National Merit Program. Although only the 16,000 National Merit program entrants who qualified as Semifinalists based on higher selection index scores will continue in the competition for Merit Scholarship awards, Daniel’s performance was outstanding, and recognition as a Commended Student is a credit to him, his parents, and the Comsewogue School District.

Last but by no means least, Jacqueline Okolie has been named Outstanding Participant in the 2007 National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and established to honor Black American high school students. Jacqueline is one of approximately 4,600 high school seniors whose Merit scores are among the top 5% of more than 130,000 Black Americans who requested entry to the 2007 National Achievement Program. As a result, her name will be included in a roster of outstanding participants being referred to about 1,500 U.S. colleges and universities.

We are exceptionally proud of the outstanding accomplishments and achievements of Zachary Jackson, Jacqueline Okolie, and Daniel Thornhill. The Comsewogue School District says, “KUDOS TO YOU! CONTINUED SUCCESS”!
