Be a Part of the American Cancer Society’s Fun-filled Overnight Community Event to Fight Cancer Find Out More About the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

Everyone in some way has been touched by cancer. That’s why Port Jefferson Station is hosting its second American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event at Terryville Road Elementary School, Port Jefferson Station on June 11 & 12, 2005 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 am. The Comsewogue School District has given our event a home again for 2005!

Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where groups of friends, families, neighbors, and coworkers form teams to walk or run around the school track, to raise spirits, awareness and funds to fight cancer through research, education, advocacy and patient and family services. Last year the Port Jefferson Station community raised over $107,000 with over 88 teams participating. Our goal this year is to raise $200,000.

We can only do it with your participation.

At the Relay For Life, cancer survivors of all ages kick off the festivities by taking a “Survivor Victory Lap.” At nightfall hundreds of luminaria candles placed around the track are lit in a poignant ceremony to honor loved ones battling cancer and those who have lost their battles. There will be live entertainment for adults and children throughout the night.

Find out more about how you can get involved by forming a team and becoming a part of this wonderful community event. The Kick Off Event for Relay For Life will be held at the Holiday Inn Express on Route 347 in Stony Brook on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at 7:00 pm. This year’s event theme is Mardi Gras. Bring a new Team Captain and win a prize.
