My trip to Computer Associates "Digital Schoolhouse" was on Wednesday, January 19, 2005. I had applied two years ago and had been placed on their waiting list. The trip is only for fifth grades. Computer Associates funds the entire trip...transportation, lunch, computer labs, and teachers.

I worked with the Digital School staff to design a day that would align itself with our classroom academic work. I chose a marketing lesson. Each student choose a state and had to research the Internet for tourism information. Once the information was gathered they had to assemble it into a Power Point presentation. The presentation had to "sell" their state to an audience, the class. Students then were given the opportunity to display their work in front of the class.

We enjoyed the experience very much and would recommend it to all fifth grade teachers and their classes.

Mrs. Elisa San Roman and Mrs. Cindy Lawrence, parents of two of my students, came with us. Mrs. Lawrence took all the digital photographs of the event. Toni Bifalco was very supportive of the trip and continues to encourage our staff to reach out into the community for new and exciting educational experiences.

I would be happy to provide any teacher further information about the Digital Schoolhouse Foundation.

This trip aligns itself very nicely with NYS State Standards in Social Studies and Technology. I also believe it is indicative of what the Comsewogue alliance with the business community is attempting to encourage.

Here are some photographs from our field trip.
