Comsewogue High School Intel Program

General Information

Comsewogue High School is proud to offer the Intel Research Program to its students. In this program, the students select an area of research interest, find a research mentor, and proceed with planning and implementing a research project. A paper is written based on their research findings, and this paper is then entered in the Intel Science Talent Search Competition. Intel Semifinalists receive a $1000 prize for themselves, as well as an additional $1000 for the CHS Intel Program. Intel Finalists can win up to $100,000 in college scholarships. Why not go for it! For further information --- contact Ms. Casey at the high school.

Darren L.
Is it really ADHD?

Darren L. is concerned that OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) patients could be misdiagnosed as ADHD (Attention Deficit – Hyperactivity Disorder) patients. He proposes that the many similarities between OSA and ADHD could result in misdiagnosis of the disorders. In addition, Restless Leg Syndrome(RLS) and Periodic Limb Movement Disorder Syndrome (PLMDS) are also characterized by daytime symptoms similar to those seen in ADHD. To address these issues, Darren has skillfully crafted an anonymous survey of Comeswogue High School students. Darren’s research Mentor is Dr. Maczaj, a sleep disorder expert at Stony Brook University’s Dept. of Psychology. For further information about Darren’s research project, or about sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and the Epworth Sleepiness Test --- please see the links below:
