Welcome to the
Terryville Elementary School

Terryville Elementary is a kindergarten through fifth grade school that serves a population of approximately 500 students in the Comsewogue School District. We are dedicated to creating a learning environment that is safe and nurturing and enables our students to meet the demands of a changing, dynamic society.

Terryville participates in the Literacy Collaborative Program which is a classroom based comprehensive program designed to increase literacy achievement for all students by providing a framework of reading, writing and word study practices. In addition, we have two Reading Recovery teachers who enhance the Literacy Collaborative Program and work with the lowest achieving first grade students for an intensive twenty week session.

School Business Partnership is important to us as a school community. Our annual career day is a spectacular event, where many members of the business community volunteer their time to share their expertise with our students. Also, a classroom teacher has consistently used grant funds to strengthen our partnership with the business community. A few examples of the collaboration are the Terryville Literacy Garden and a local business directory created by kindergarteners entitled, Through the Eyes of Kindergarten Children.

Our school offers countless opportunities for students to grow and succeed. Participation in a variety of experiences helps each child discover and develop to his or her full potential. Terryville offers many after school club activities, which include Computer Club, Math Club, Literary Magazine Club, Just Say No Club, Art Club, Drama Club, Great Books Club, Running Club, Science Research Club, Spanish Club, Violin Club, and Student Council leadership opportunities. Our music program is top notch. The Band, Orchestra and Chorus perform two concerts a year, as well as other informal events throughout the school year.

Terryville is fortunate to have a dedicated PTA that is extremely supportive of our school initiatives. The PTA provides students with cultural activities, family fun nights, book fairs and many, many wonderful experiences. Mrs. Michelle McCarren, our PTA President, and her Executive Council, work diligently throughout the school year to help make the school an exciting place to learn. Parents are invited to attend the monthly PTA meetings and encouraged to get involved and volunteer to help run one or more of the many programs the PTA sponsors. To foster our supportive environment, parents and teachers need to work together as partners in educating the children we share. Working together, we can strive for academic excellence and ensure a life long love of learning.

Please visit our  photo web journal monthly to see some of the Terryville highlights of the school year.

Sincerely,
Mrs. April Victor
