Five of Comsewogue High School’s student-athletes recently qualified for state championships after exceptional performances in bowling, indoor track, swimming and wrestling.
Senior bowler Anthony Manetta had his strongest season to date, averaging a score of 232.7 throughout the winter season. Anthony was ranked as the number one bowler in Section XI this season and will continue on to represent Suffolk County on the All Section Team at the State Championships in Syracuse on March 8th and 9th.
At the Varsity Girls Winter Track Section XI State Qualifier on Wednesday, February 14th, freshman Lexie Cole qualified for states after running an outstanding 4:38.69 in the 1500 meter run, breaking her own personal record in the process. Lexie currently ranks third in the state. Junior Sophia Deja jumped to a height of 5 feet, two inches in the High Jump, and also ranks third in the state. The NYSPHSAA Indoor Track championships will be held on March 2nd at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
Ethan Placencia-Nazareno was the Section XI swimming champion in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:47.6, his personal best. He also recently placed second in the 100 meter freestyle in the Long Island Challenge. Ethan will be competing in the state championships on March 1st in Ithaca.
On our wrestling team, Mason Mangialino placed second in the Section XI Division 1 Wrestling Championship in the 124 lb. weight class. With his second place finish, Mason qualified for the NYSPHSAA State Wrestling Championship in Albany on February 23rd and 24th.
