Numerous facilities enhancements and upgrades are underway throughout Comsewogue School District, with each project providing improvements in the areas of safety and accessibility.
At Comsewogue High School, three projects are taking place. The main project is the replacement of the building's entire roof, which was approved by voters in 2023, with funds coming from both our general budget and the Capital Reserve Fund. The new roof will replace existing, damaged material, correct multiple drainage issues and repair numerous leaks.
The second project includes the second phase of renovations to the courtyard. Existing concrete is being removed to make way for a more inviting area, which will include the transition of the space to be used as an outdoor learning area. Additionally, a new concrete pathway between the south parking lot and John N. Swenning Sr. Field House is being installed, and a new ramp and staircase from the parking lot to the track is being added for increased access and ADA compliance.
At Norwood Avenue Elementary School and District Office, asbestos abatement has been completed in numerous areas including the Transportation and Registration offices, the cafeteria, and multiple storage rooms. Many of these spaces are being upgraded with new LED lighting and ceilings, and all of the spaces are being painted and receiving brand new floors.
Our Grounds Department is re-striping the lines at all six of our parking lots. The new line striping will both enhance driver and pedestrian safety, and is replacing the faded markings that were originally painted when the parking lots were paved during the bond work as far back as five years ago. Other projects happening this summer include repairs to the masonry on the Clinton Avenue Elementary School roof, the completion of the new basketball court at Clinton, and the painting of the gymnasium ceilings at both Clinton and Boyle.
Pictures from many of these projects are being posted on our social media platforms each week, so stay tuned for frequent updates.
