At the monthly Board of Education Meeting on Monday, April 8, 2024, over 40 students were recognized for various community service projects, educational accomplishments and more that have recently taken place, both inside and outside of school.
Members of the National Science Honor Society at Comsewogue High School recently organized two STEM Nights for our elementary school students. The students in grades K-5 were able to participate in hand-on science experiments designed by the high school students, and also were able to take home mini experiments to try on their own. You can read more about the STEM Nights here.
JFK Middle School student Geana Ottenwalder was honored for winning a logo design contest for the Comsewogue Music and Arts Parent Association. The organization was looking for a new contest, and students form our district had the opportunity to enter a contest to have their logo chosen. Avry Van Schaick was also recognized for winning a poster contest for the Association. Avry created the winning poster as part of a project in her College Marketing class.
Additionally, from JFK, Michael Rotundo was named the winner of the National Geographic Slingshot Challenge, which encourages students to promote environmental awareness. Michael created a kindness tree at JFK, which has now grown so large that the tree has extended down the hallway. Emma Khan, Isabella Campisi and Layla Preddice were recognized for having their artwork displayed in the NYSATA Kindred Spirits Art Exhibition. Teachers are paired with a student who shares a common art interest to create one piece based around the same theme.
Two students, Ebube Maduekwe and Allen Cordelia, were selected to represent our district and Section XI at the NYSPHSAA Student Leadership Conference. At this one-day conference in Albany, New York, current 10th and 11th graders learn how to further sharpen their leadership skills, and more positively influence their teams, athletic departments, schools and communities.
