Second-grade students at Clinton Avenue Elementary School in the Comsewogue School District recently showcased their musical skills during a community ukulele concert. Students have been practicing strumming patterns, chords and songs on the string instrument throughout the year and showed off what they learned with a joyous performance for their families and peers.

“Our students were so excited to display the techniques and songs they practiced on the ukulele all year,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn. “We’re very proud of our students for their dedication to learning a new instrument and thank our music teachers for cultivating that interest.”

Clinton Avenue’s younger students are introduced to different instruments such as the ukulele and xylophone in their music classes each year, encouraging them to continue their musical education and join their school band.

The Comsewogue School District is nationally recognized for its outstanding commitment to music education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation. For over a decade, the District has earned the NAMM Best Communities for Music Education Award, which recognizes the outstanding efforts and accomplishments of the district’s music administrators, teachers and students.
