Comsewogue High School is excited to announce the completion of an inspiring Eagle Scout project led by senior Ethan Matz. This ambitious project transformed an existing classroom into a dynamic space designed to resemble a real-world courtroom, aligning with the district’s initiative to promote problem-based learning. Ethan Matz’s renovation reflects the high school’s commitment to providing students with engaging, hands-on educational experiences. The new courtroom-style classroom will provide an immersive environment for students taking courses such as U.S. History, Mock Trial, Government, and Criminal Justice, better preparing them to become informed and productive citizens.
The project was inspired by two esteemed Comsewogue social studies teachers, Bill Bodkin and Jay McGuinness. Although both have retired, their dedication to fostering critical thinking and real-world learning continues to influence the Comsewogue community. Their legacy lives on through this beautiful renovation, ensuring current and future students will have the opportunity to learn in a classroom that mirrors real-world environments. “We are incredibly proud of Ethan Matz for his hard work, leadership, and vision in bringing this project to life,” said Mike Mosca, Principal of Comsewogue High School. “This classroom will serve as a dynamic learning space for our students, providing them with the opportunity to experience the real-world applications of their studies.”
The newly revitalized courtroom-style classroom is officially open for use. Comsewogue High School extends its gratitude to Ethan Matz and everyone who contributed to this project, which will benefit generations of students for years to come.
