The Office of Pupil Personnel Services in the Comsewogue School District provides special services to students in the areas of special education, Section 504 Accommodations, specially designed instruction, psychology, social work, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision and hearing services, other related services, psycho-educational evaluations, and homebound instruction.

When students fail to respond to school instruction and intervention, school personnel or parents can submit a request for an evaluation to the building principal or directly to the Committee on Special Education (CSE). Parents and early childhood educators who are concerned about a preschooler's development can submit a request for an evaluation to the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). The evaluation, under CSE or CPSE, will include any procedures, tests, assessments, records review, or observations given to determine if the student has an educational disability and is eligible for special education and/or related services. Recommendations from this evaluation may or may not include classification of the child as a student with a disability.

Homebound instruction is provided to students on a temporary basis when a student is unable to attend school for a prolonged period (at least two weeks) because of a short-term disability. Medical documentation must be attached and a parent can request home instruction by contacting the main office of each building.

For further information, please contact the Office of Pupil Personnel Services at (631) 474-8127, or send an email to [email protected]. You may also contact the school psychologist in the building your child attends.
