The Comsewogue School District welcomed students, staff, alumni and friends to its annual Homecoming celebration on October 7. Throughout the week, students and staff members at all school buildings displayed their school spirit for “Spirit Week” in preparation for the celebratory weekend parade and football game. Comsewogue was victorious against East Hampton-Bridgehampton-Pierson High School and won their game with a score of 14-0.
“Comsewogue always sees homecoming as an opportunity to give everyone in the District and community a reason to celebrate. Despite the harsh weather, we still had an exciting Spirit Week, pep rally and Homecoming Dance. It was amazing to see so many faces from our community come together on Saturday for an exciting carnival and well-deserved win for the Comsewogue Warriors,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn.
Spirit Week included Character Day, in which staff and students came to school dressed as their favorite pop culture character. On Tropical Day, the hallways were full of students ready for a luau in Hawaiian shirts and leis. On Decades Day, students dressed in various decade-themed apparel from across history. Red, White and Blue Day featured students showing patriotic flare in different tri-colored outfits and Class Color Day had which students sporting their class color.
The week concluded with a spirited pep rally that included games like a mummy wrap and musical chairs, a performance from the cheerleading and dance teams and an introduction to the school’s Varsity teams. That night, students celebrated with the school’s Homecoming Dance. It all led up to an exciting Saturday that included a carnival, featuring class floats and a performance from the student band Roadkill.
Before the game, the newest class of inductees of the District’s Hall of Fame walked onto the field to be honored by the community. Inductees included Al Kohart, who graduated in 2007, Joseph Droge, who graduated in 2001, Nick Azzara, who graduated in 1984, Keith Vigorito, who graduated in 2010, Roy Lenzo Jr., who graduated in 2013, and John Swenning, who graduated in 1982.
