Monthly Read Alouds

About the Read Alouds

Each month, Dr. Quinn, Dr. Polychronakos and Mr. Coniglione will read a book to elementary school students based on that month's character pillar. The overall theme, "Choose Kindness, Be Mindful" is incorporated into the books that have been chosen for each read aloud.

Additionally, there are certain days of each month that Comsewogue will participate in to spread awareness of these character pillars. For example, Heart Health Day will be held in February, where everyone is encouraged to wear red.

2021-2022 Read Aloud Videos

In September, the book "Why Am I Me?" (written by Paige Britt and illustrated by Sean Qualls and Selina Alko) was chosen to represent the character pillar of Self-Awareness. Watch the read aloud video for September.

In October, the book "The Juice Box Bully - Empowering Kids to Stand Up for Others" (written by Bob Sornson and Maria Dismondy and illustrated by Kim Shaw) was chosen to represent the character pillar of Respect. Watch the read aloud video for October.

In November, the book "We The Kids: The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States" (illustrations and foreword by David Catrow) was chosen to represent the character pillar of Citizenship. Watch the read aloud video for November.

In January, the book "I Just Want to Do It My Way" (written by Julia Cook and illustrated by Kelsey DeWeerd) was chosen to represent the character pillar of Self-Control. Watch the read aloud video for January.

In February, the book "I Am Human" (written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds) was chosen to represent the character pillar of Empathy. Watch the read aloud video for February.

In March, the book "The Most Magnificent Thing" (written and illustrated by Ashley Spires) was chosen to represent the character pillar of Perseverance. Watch the read aloud video for March.

In April, the book "Why Mosquitoes Buzz In People's Ears: A West African Tale" (written by Verna Aardema and illustrated by Leo and Diane Dillon) was chosen to represent the character pillar of Trustworthiness. Watch the read aloud video for April.

In May, the book "Tell the Truth B.B. Wolf (written by Judy Sierra and illustrated by Jotto Seibold) was chosen to represent the character pillar of Responsibility. This month's read aloud features very special guests, Alexandra Gordon, Corey Prinz and Robert DeStefano from the Comsewogue Board of Education. Watch the read aloud video for May.
