Comsewogue Raises $4,600 for St. Baldrick's Day
The Comsewogue School District St. Baldrick’s Day was particularly personal this year, as the school rallied behind Liam Salembier, a Comsewogue student battling cancer. Staff and students came together for a fundraiser at JFK Middle School, at which six volunteers shaved their heads or cut their hair to support childhood cancer research. Through their efforts, the District raised $4,600 to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in honor of student Liam.
“Each year, we come together for a huge St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser to cheer on our student and staff volunteers who agreed to shave their head for such an important cause,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn. “When we heard what one of our own students was fighting, we wanted to show our support in any way we could and dedicated this fundraiser to him and his family.”
Students participated in the St. Baldrick’s Day celebration by setting a fundraising goal and pledging to shave their heads if they reached it. JFK Middle School Assistant Principal James Hilbert also volunteered to have his head shaved by the student who raised the most money.
The St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser aimed to raise awareness and funds for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit at the forefront of fighting childhood cancer and a major resource for Liam and his family.
