Comsewogue School District

The Comsewogue High School and JFK Middle School marching bands recently spent a sunny St. Patrick’s Day performing before hundreds of cheering and smiling faces at the 264th New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It was just the second time in the District’s history that they had participated in the iconic event.

“Our students will always remember the incredible experience of performing in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn. “It was so exciting to come back for a second year and see the joy on the faces of the younger musicians who were performing for the first time, as well as the students who came back for a new, beloved tradition. We plan to keep coming back for years to come!”

Last year, the Comsewogue High School marching band was asked to march alongside the Suffolk County Firefighters Emerald Society by President Bill Theis, an alum of Comsewogue High School. They were standout performers; Mr. Theis not only asked them back, but also invited them to bring the JFK Middle School marching band along with them. The two bands joined together as the official marching band of the Emerald Society in the parade.

Comsewogue student musicians played St. Patrick’s Day favorites, like “Shipping up to Boston” by The Dropkick Murphys. Students marched outside along the high school’s track in the weeks leading up to the parade, preparing themselves for any conditions on March 16th. Performers were met with luck during a warm and sunny day as the band marched down 5th Avenue.
