School Counselor Responsibilities
While the role of the school counselor is multi-faceted, identified below are some of the responsibilities that are tasked and carried out:
- Provide transition support as students promote between schools (Elementary to Middle School, Middle school to High School, and beyond High School).
- Counsel students on a myriad of issues such as: struggling with school, phobia, peer and family relations, stress, etc.
- Conduct individual progress reviews to address current academic, personal, and social progress, goal setting, and future planning.
- Support the course selection process and advisement.
- Provide education and support services.
- Provide consultation services to teaching and building staff.
- Facilitate referrals to community support services.
- Provide career exploration.
- Provide post-secondary planning.
- Network with post-secondary colleges and trade schools.
